There are three ways to get disability coverage.

Three ways to get disability coverage
1.

New Hire

Enroll in short-term and/or long-term disability coverage within 31 days of your hire date. You don’t need to submit evidence of insurability (EOI). Enroll by logging in to your ERS account.

2.

Summer Enrollment

Apply for short-term and/or long-term disability coverage during Summer Enrollment. To apply you must submit EOI (33k). Your application must be approved before your coverage starts. Application instructions are provided each year for the Summer Enrollment period.

3.

Qualifying Life Event (QLE)

Apply for short-term and/or long-term disability coverage due to an applicable qualifying life event (QLE), such as marriage or the birth of a child. To apply, submit EOI (33k) within 31 days of your QLE. To apply:

  1. Log in to your ERS account.
  2. Identify and use the correct reason for the QLE when making changes to your account.
  3. Select short-term and/or long-term disability coverage.
  4. Follow the prompts to initiate the EOI process
  5. You will receive instructions on how to submit your EOI application to Guardian Life Insurance (the underwriter for TIPP).

Your application must be approved before your coverage starts.
